About our founders
Meet Ruthie and Armie Harper
As researchers and medical specialists with decades of experience, Drs. Armitage “Armie” and Ruthie Harper are passionate about helping people keep their vision and retaining a higher quality of life – for longer.
Ruthie Harper, MD completed her internal medicine residency at LSU in 1989. After a decade of practicing traditional medicine, she recognized how gaps in the traditional medical system left people vulnerable to age-related diseases including AMD. In 1999, Ruthie opened her internationally recognized private practice in Austin, Texas to address these issues. She specializes in determining the biochemical root causes of disease and helps patients to get optimally healthy with a functional and integrative approach to health. She has helped thousands of patients achieve long-term health and disease prevention during her career.
Dr. Armitage “Armie” Harper joined Austin Retina Associates in 1995 after completing an ophthalmology residency at LSU and retina fellowship at Casey Eye Institute at the University of Oregon. Armie has dedicated his career to preserving eyesight from cradle to grave.
Inspired by his own grandfather’s struggle with AMD, SightDefense was launched in 2014 as a collaborative effort of both physicians to find a nutritional product that could support AMD, vision, and health. Now, SightDefense has been used by thousands of patients safely and effectively.
